My Story

From a family of medics, becoming a health care professional was inevitable. After qualifying from Bristol in 2007 with distinctions and awards in academic and clinical dentistry, I spent time in practice before heading back into the hospital environment. Rotations in Restorative Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Bristol Dental Hospital followed by the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals provided a wealth of experience in specialist and general dentistry, cancer therapies, facial deformity and trauma. I was successful in winning the only Prosthodontic Specialist Registrar post in the UK in 2010 and have lived and worked in Scotland ever since. I finished seven years of full-time specialist training in 2017 and am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. I have been invited to speak nationally and internationally and have published articles in globally recognised, peer reviewed publications.

My private practice is currently based at 40 Harley Street, London, Parrys Lane Specialist Dental Practice in Bristol, Lindon Lodge in Clevedon and Woodcock Lane in Stonehouse.

Digital Implant Planning

To get the best outcomes, meticulous planning and assessments are required. Digital implant planning allows for real-time simulation of the surgery, before the event, so that even the smallest details can be taken in to account.

Smile Design

Begin with the end in mind! Planning a smile takes time, and it can be hard to visualise the end result. Custom, hand made designs alongside digital assessment and planning techniques help identify your unique concerns and design the perfect smile.

Digital Dentistry

Dentistry is constantly evolving. Digital processes have reshaped the way dentistry is delivered for the better. The use of 3D printing and digital scanning allow us to provide contemporary care whilst doing our bit to prevent climate change.

Restorative Dentistry

Restorative Dentistry covers Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontology and sub-specialist areas such as oral cancer rehabilitation, replacing genetically missing teeth (Hypodontia) and the dental management of cleft lip and palate. Endodontics is the management of root treatment problems whilst Periodontology is the management of gum problems.

In-depth training within these disciplines provides a wealth of experience and knowledge, so that almost any area of dentistry can be managed. It also brings an awareness of all the possible treatment options that might be more appropriate to meet a patients needs.

What does Specialist mean?

To be called a Specialist, a dentist must have competed a nationally recognised training program under the supervision of other specialists and consultants. This includes passing the appropriate examinations alongside rigorous, peer reviewed assessments. They can then apply to the General Dental Council who, if appropriate, will grant them the title of Specialist.

My specialist journey started within the field of Prosthodontics. This specialty covers cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, crowns and bridges, dentures and general treatment planning so that a whole mouth can be re-built. The competitive entry training took three years full-time and included a Masters in Clinical Dentistry. Competing this course and passing the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s examination allowed me to become a registered Specialist in Prosthodontics with the General Dental Council. However, my eyes were opened to the possibilities further training offered and I went on to win a position for another four years of full-time specialist training in Restorative Dentistry. Completion of this allowed me to be eligible to gain a hospital consultant position in Restorative Dentistry.

What does Consultant mean?

To become a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, the highest level of UK dental examinations must be passed. This is the Specialty Fellowship Examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland combined. A Consultant has additional training in clinical research so that they can understand which technologies, techniques and materials our best for our patients and when to ignore those that are just a fad.

I hold a permanent post at the Bristol Dental Hospital as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, where I am actively involved in research alongside the training and education of the next generation of specialists and consultants. My clinical remit involves dental implants, the management of patients who are born without their permanent teeth and patients who have congenital abnormalities of their teeth. I work as part of a multi-disciplinary team which involves close collaboration with orthodontic colleagues and oral surgeons. I am also involved with the development of Digital Dentistry within the hospital.

My Private Referral Practice work provides an amazing opportunity to deliver high quality, complex care in all areas of dentistry, but predominantly revolves around dental implants, dental rehabilitations and cosmetic dentistry.
